K?rero m? te t?ranga – About the role
This is an opportunity to define and embed the role of an Advanced Occupational Therapist in the inpatient rehabilitation setting. Our rehabilitation ward treats people with a variety of conditions including stroke, amputations, acquired brain injury and amputations.
The successful post holder will work collaboratively with patients, wh?nau and the rehabilitation MDT to identify and attain rehabilitation goals through the provision of specialist occupational therapy assessment and intervention. This role also provides mentorship to two Occupational Therapists working within the rehabilitation team.
We are in an exciting time with a coordinated rehabilitation programme of work being undertaken and this role will have a key part to play in informing and advancing this from on Occupational Therapy perspective. This is a new role for our team and will initially be for a fixed term of 12 months. During this time we will evaluate the role to assess its impact and what best meets the needs of the service in the longer term. Therefore there is potential that this may extend beyond the initial 12 month period.
M? t? m?tou r?p? – About our team
Our rehabilitation MDT is based within the Inpatient Allied Health Team – a team of over 30 Allied Health staff from six different professions. We work together closely to provide a service of high standard to patients and their families and whanau. We are a very supportive team who provide training and learning opportunities, supervision, encourage professional development and have fun and laughter along the way.
Within the rehabilitation ward you will work alongside dedicated nursing, medical and Allied Health staff to empower and enable patients to meet their rehabilitation goals. You will also work with our Allied Health Consultant (Rehabilitation) who is a key member of the rehabilitation team, driving service improvements across the rehabilitation continuum.
Mo? – About you
You will be an experienced and driven NZ Registered Occupational Therapist with advanced rehabilitation knowledge and experience. Ideally you will have experience across the continuum of care which will help you foster links with community clinicians to enable a smooth transition for clients from the inpatient to community setting. You will have experience mentoring others and driving service improvements. You will role model meaningful, patient centred goal setting and support colleagues to do the same.
Ideally you’ll be FIM (Functional Independence Measure) credentialed and have Enable accreditation in personal care, household management, Level 1 Wheeled Mobility and Postural Support and minor home modifications – or be willing to achieve these.
